On March 12, 2026, Mrs. Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, Founding-Chairperson of the New People’s Party and the Savantas Policy Institute, and Convenor of Hong Kong Executive Council, led a delegation to visit SASS. Professor Gan Chunhui, Executive Vice President, met with the delegation and exchanged views on the economy of Hong Kong, Shanghai-Hong Kong cooperation, and think tank cooperation.

Professor Gan extended a warm welcome to Mrs. Regina Ip and her delegation, and provided an overview of SASS’s history, academic research, think tank development, and international engagement. He noted that the international order is undergoing profound changes, with global economic, trade, and investment facing both new risks and opportunities. He emphasized that Hong Kong has long served as a vital window for China’s opening-up, and that in today’s complex and volatile global economic landscape, its role as a bridge has become even more crucial. SASS attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with the Savantas Policy Institute and looks forward to strengthening collaboration in areas such as international relations, trade, and investment, so as to better serve China’s high-level opening-up.

Mrs. Regina Ip expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and outlined Hong Kong’s economic and social development, the positioning of the Savantas Policy Institute, and the prospects for Shanghai-Hong Kong cooperation. She noted that SASS enjoys distinctive strengths in disciplinary development and think tank research. As a leading policy research think tank in Hong Kong, the Savantas Policy Institute stands ready to deepen cooperation and exchanges with SASS. She further observed that, amid the vigorous development of the new economy and emerging business models in the mainland, Hong Kong can fully leverage its international connectivity and advantages in professional services—particularly in finance and law—to support mainland enterprises, especially those in emerging industries, in expanding into global markets. She expressed hope that both sides would maintain close communication and sustained cooperation to contribute to the country’s high-quality development.
