On 5 February 2026, a delegation led by Nurlan Akkoshkarov, Consul General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai, visited SASS. Professor Gan Chunhui, Executive Vice President of SASS, met with the delegation and exchanged views on China-Kazakhstan relations and bilateral academic cooperation.

Professor Gan welcomed Mr. Akkoshkarov and his delegation, and provided an overview of SASS’s history and latest progress in policy advisory services, academic research and talent development. He noted that Kazakhstan is an important neighbor of China, with the two countries facing many shared development challenges. There is considerable potential for expanding exchanges and cooperation between their academic institutions and think tanks, particularly in the fields of philosophy and social sciences. He emphasized that SASS attaches great importance to its academic ties with Kazakhstan and maintains close exchanges with numerous Kazakhstani universities and think tanks. SASS stands ready to further strengthen cooperation and contribute its expertise to the development of bilateral relations.
Mr. Akkoshkarov expressed gratitude for the warm reception at SASS and stated that Kazakhstan places high importance on China-Kazakhstan relations and is committed to advancing the permanent comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. In recent years, Kazakhstan has implemented a series of institutional reforms aimed at improving macro-level policymaking in line with national development priorities. He noted that the Kazakh side is willing to carry out joint research with SASS on topics such as domestic political reform and economic development. The Consulate General will also support SASS in building connections with Kazakh think tanks and academic experts, with a view to further deepening bilateral academic exchanges.
Both sides also held in-depth discussions on constitutional reform in Kazakhstan, digital development in Central Asian countries, and the co-organization of academic conferences.
