On 19 November 2025, the symposium entitled “New Trends in World Economic Development and Global Financial Stability” was held at SASS. The event was jointly organized by the Institute of World Economy at SASS and the Shanghai Representative Office of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES).

Professor Zhao Beiwen, Deputy Director of the Institute of World Economy, and Mr. Benjamin Reichenbach, Director of FES Shanghai Representative Office, delivered welcoming remarks. Professor Zhao extended a warm welcome to all participants and expressed her appreciation for FES’s longstanding support of SASS. She noted that the global economy continues to face multiple challenges and is navigating an increasingly turbulent path shaped by the interplay of new shocks, evolving equilibria, and emerging sources of growth. She emphasized that enhanced global cooperation is essential to safeguarding sustainable economic development and maintaining financial stability worldwide.

Mr. Reichenbach observed that the prevailing global economic paradigm is shifting from a primary focus on efficiency toward greater emphasis on geopolitical security, accompanied by rising regionalization trends and heightened risk awareness. Against this backdrop, he noted, a wide range of issues merit in-depth discussion.
