On September 16 2025, Professor Gan Chunhui, Executive Vice President of SASS, met with the visiting delegation for candid and cordial discussions on topics including China-Australia relations and think tank cooperation.

He extended a warm welcome to Assistant Secretary Karen Radford and her delegation, and reviewed past exchanges and collaborations with Australian think tanks, universities and other institutions. Professor Gan highlighted the strong complementarity between China and Australia in economic and trade affairs, expressing the hope that both sides would look beyond distractions and work to advance practical cooperation. He noted that SASS attaches great importance to international academic exchange and stands ready to engage in further dialogue and joint initiatives with Australian partners on issues of shared concern, thereby contributing to the development of China-Australia relations.

Assistant Secretary Karen Radford thanked Professor Gan for the warm reception and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to the bilateral relationship. She emphasized that Prime Minister Albanese’s visit to China in July this year marked an important step toward stable relations. While acknowledging existing differences in defence and strategic areas, she underlined the importance of keeping channels of dialogue open to ensure accurate and comprehensive understanding of each other’s strategic intentions.
