Seminar on the High-Quality Development of Enterprise Think Tanks Held at SASS

On April 4, 2025, the Chinese Think Tanks Report (2024) Release Conference and Seminar on the High-Quality Development of Enterprise Think Tanks was held at SASS. The event brought together more than 80 participants, including leaders of think tank institutions, representatives from corporate think tanks, and experts and scholars from across China.

 

Professor Quan HengDeputy Director General of Publicity Department of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC and Secretary of SASS CPC Committee, delivered opening remarks. He emphasized the need to further promote reform and innovation in policies, operational mechanisms, and talent development to enhance the core competitiveness and international influence of Chinese think tanks. He also stressed the importance of strengthening think tank studies by adhering to the discipline’s own growth and operational logic, highlighting institutional characteristics, and producing more in-depth, high-impact intellectual outputs on key topics and major issues.

 

At the event, the SASS Think Tank Research Centre and the Liaowang Institute jointly released the Chinese Think Tanks Report (2024): Further Comprehensively Deepening Reform and the Development of New-Type Corporate Think Tanks in China. The report offers a comprehensive overview of the current status, features, development experiences, challenges, and policy recommendations regarding the growth of corporate think tanks in China. It aims to provide practical reference and guidance for promoting the high-quality development of new-type corporate think tanks.

 

Following the report release, representatives from social science academies and corporate think tanks across China shared case studies and best practices. They also offered recommendations on further advancing think tank development, accelerating digital and intelligent transformation, and enhancing social influence.

 

As the earliest research platform dedicated to think tank studies in China, the SASS Think Tank Research Centre has published the annual Chinese Think Tanks Report since 2014. Over the past decade, the report series has closely followed the evolution of China's think tank landscape, compiling extensive case studies, focusing on a unique theme each year, and providing actionable insights and recommendations. It has become one of the most closely followed and influential reports in the field of Chinese think tank research. The 2024 edition marks the tenth publication in the series.
