November 13th—The opening ceremony of 2024 Visiting Program for Young Sinologists was held at SASS. The Program is hosted by Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, and coordinated by Network of International Culturalink Entities and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. Throughout the Program, participants deepened their understanding of Chinese society and culture by attending thematic lectures in Shanghai, visiting renowned cultural and historical landmarks, and engaging in various other activities. Moreover, the Program offered fresh research perspectives to the global Chinese studies community and provide new impetus for scholars' understanding and academic exploration of China.
Wu Xueming, Vice President of SASS, delivered a welcome address at the opening ceremony. He highlighted that since the launch of the Visiting Program for Young Sinologists in Shanghai in 2016, nearly 180 young sinologists have participated, gaining a profound understanding of Chinese culture and China's path to modernization. He encouraged the participants to use this opportunity to deepen their knowledge of China and strengthen their ties with Chinese academia through comprehensive study and meaningful exchanges.
Five young sinologist representatives shared their personal connections with China, their knowledge of Chinese culture, and their experiences in academic exchanges. They looked forward to further explore Chinese culture, and contribute to the development of bilateral relations.
Since its inception in 2014, the Visiting Program has enabled young sinologists from around the globe to witness China's development firsthand. Through a combination of thematic lectures, field trips, and cultural experiences, the Program has deepened participants' understanding of China's history, culture, and path to modernization.
