International Symposium on “Public Sector and Public Services for Sustainable Development” took place in SASS

November 12th—The International Symposium on “Public Sector and Public Services for Sustainable Development”, organized by SASS, the Division of Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and hosted by the Institute of Information Studies at SASS. 

 

Wu Xueming, Vice President of SASS, extended a warm welcome in his opening remarks. He expressed his hope that the participating experts would engage in meaningful exchanges and foster close cooperation on the theme of the public sector and sustainable development. He encouraged them to focus on the dynamic practices of digital government construction, offer forward-looking strategies for enhancing public services, and contribute their collective wisdom and efforts to building a prosperous, equitable, and sustainable world.

 

Mr. Juwang Zhu, Director of DPIDG, emphasized in his speech the pivotal role of the public sector in addressing key areas such as poverty and hunger alleviation, promoting education and public health, fostering sound investment and employment opportunities, and protecting the ecological environment to mitigate climate change. He encouraged all participants to use this symposium as a platform to build consensus, pool resources, and inject renewed momentum into advancing sustainable development. He also expressed his gratitude to SASS for organizing the symposium, translating, and publishing the Chinese version of the UN World Public Sector Report 2023, and conveyed his hopes for further collaboration with SASS.

 

Participants from institutions such as the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), the Hong Kong Institute of Public Administration (HKIPA) and SASS delivered speeches. They explored themes such as governance frameworks for the SDGs, regional strategies for innovation, and approaches to aligning global goals with effective public administration practices.

 

During the symposium, the UN World Public Sector Report 2023 (Chinese version) was launched. The translation and publication was undertaken by the Institute of Information Studies at SASS under the trust and support of DPIDG. Notably, this marks the fourth time the Institute has taken on the significant responsibility of translating and publishing the Report's Chinese edition.
