On May 21, 2024, Institute of Philosophy of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences held the forum on Epistemological Evolution and Evaluation of Humanities Sciences. More than thirty experts and scholars from institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai New York University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai University, Shanghai Normal University, and Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences attended the forum.

Wang Dezhong, President of SASS, attended the meeting and delivered a speech, during which he pointed out that in recent years, with the emergence of ChatGPT, Sora, and GPT-4o, the impact on the development of humanities disciplines has been increasing significant. Therefore. how to perceive or evaluate the generation and evolution of knowledge in humanities sciences has become an urgent interdisciplinary issue. He believed that this forum, based on interdisciplinary dialogue, would further deepen understanding of relevant issues.

Fang Songhua, former Director of Institute of Philosophy, SASS, briefly introduced the history of Institute of Philosophy and its recent academic achievements in his address. He discussed the importance of understanding the value of knowledge in the entire field of humanities sciences today, especially amidst the increasingly fragmented development between natural sciences and humanities. Hence, the significance of holding the forum on this topic was particularly profound.

During the discussion session, attending experts engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics such as mutual learning between Western and Chinese philosophy, researches on Marxism, and the construction on methodological systems. They emphasized the need to encourage interdisciplinary academic platforms in the field of philosophy. The conference focused on in-depth interdisciplinary discussions regarding issues related to knowledge in humanities sciences, especially the relationship between knowledge and values, which is particularly significant in today's era of rapid development in artificial intelligence technology.
