On April 17, co-hosted by SASS and Consulate General of the Republic of Italy in Shanghai, co-organized by Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences Think Tank Foundation (SASS TTF) and Polytechnic University of Turin, “the Climate Neutral and Smart Cities: A Challenge for the Italian and Chinese Cities” was successfully concluded in SASS. Research Professor Quan Heng, Secretary of the CPC SASS Committee and Mme Tiziana D’Angelo, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, participated and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.
Through a combination of online and offline manners, the Chinese and Italian scholars launched a brainstorming session on climate neutrality, smart city construction and other topics. Research Professor Zhou Fengqi, Director of SASS Institute of Ecology and Sustainable Development, and Professor Tang Xu of Fudan Development Institute, delivered keynote speeches entitled “Major Challenges for Shanghai to Realize Dual Carbon Goals” and “Acclimatization Resilience Building and Collaborative Governance”. Climatologists from Rome and Bologna separately expounded on the goals and paths for climate neutrality in both Italian cities. During the panel discussion, six Chinese and Italian experts shared views around the theme of “Climate Shift and Future Development”. They discussed about the current situations and tasks of the global climate neutrality, the relationship between Generation Z and climate protection, etc.
Polytechnic University of Turin, as the co-organizer, is a prestigious and comprehensive university for innovation in technology and research in Europe, which has been maintaining close cooperation and exchange with SASS for a long time. Prior to the symposium, Quan Heng met with the Italian delegation, the participating guests also included Tiziana D’Angelo, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, Rocco Genchi, Deputy Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, Alessandra Palumbo, Consul for Trade and Investment Promotion of Italy in Shanghai, Professor Roberto Pagani, Polytechnic University of Turin, Professor Michele Bonino, representative of the President of Polytechnic University of Turin, Zhou Fengqi, Director of SASS Institute of Ecology and Sustainable Development, Cheng Fucai, Director of SASS Office of International Cooperation, and Li Yihai, Secretary General of SASS TTF.
