The Delegation of Consul General Ardi Barnard of New Zealand in Shanghai Visited SASS

On March 29, 2023, the delegation led by Ardi Barnard, Consul General of New Zealand in Shanghai, paid a visit to SASS. Quan Heng, Secretary of the CPC SASS Committee, exchanged views with the delegation on China-New Zealand economic development, think tank exchange, bilateral cooperation, etc.

Quan Heng extended a warm welcome to the delegation and introduced SASS as China’s top think tank and research organization in the field of humanities and social sciences, he further reviewed the cooperation and exchange achievements between SASS and China Center at the University of Auckland, New Zealand Contemporary China Centre at Victoria University of Wellington and other universities and institutions in New Zealand. Also, he shared views on China’s economic development and recovery prospects.

Ardi Barnard expressed his gratitude to Quan Heng for his warm reception and the contributions of SASS to promoting the academic and people-to-people exchanges between New Zealand and China. He also conveyed to SASS the sincere greetings from the relevant universities and think tanks in New Zealand. Ardi briefed on New Zealand’s economic and social developments and reviewed the exchanges between both countries.

Alex Smithyman, Chief Advisor to North Asia Division, New Zealand Foreign Affairs & Trade, participated and discussed about the related topics. She also briefed on the visit to Beijing by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand.

The two sides also exchanged views on topics of common interests.

The participating guests included Wilson Chau, Deputy Consul General of New Zealand in Shanghai, Maggie Shen, Policy Adviser of New Zealand in Shanghai, Li Kaisheng, Deputy Director of Institute of International Relations of SASS, Cheng Fucai, Director of Office of International Cooperation of SASS, and Liu Amin, Research Professor of Institute of International Relations of SASS, etc.
