SASS Institute of World Economy Holds Seminar on “Trends and Institutional Opening up in Emerging Fields of Global Economic Governance”

On September 28, 2022, SASS Institute of World Economy held Seminar on “Trends and Institutional Opening up in Emerging Fields of Global Economic Governance”. As one of a series of seminars on Major Project, namely, “Research on Institutional Opening up and Global Economic Governance Innovation”, funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, this seminar mainly shed light on the impacts of developments and key issues in the emerging fields of global governance on institutional opening up. Zhao Beiwen, Deputy Director of SASS Institute of World Economy and Chief Expert of this Major Project, delivered a speech and elaborated on the overall framework of this major project, the connotation of institutional opening up and its relationship with the governance of global emerging fields, among others. This seminar was chaired by Hu Xiaopeng, Deputy Director of SASS Institute of World Economy.

At this seminar, Professor Chai Qimin, Director of Strategic Planning Department of National Center for Strategic Research and International Cooperation to Address Climate Change, and Professor Cai Cuihong at the Center for American Studies of Fudan University, delivered keynote speeches on global climate governance and global digital governance, respectively. Explanations and analysis were set forth on global challenges posed by climate issues, China’s voice in global climate governance, authority structure change of climate governance, economic impact of climate change and market-oriented solutions, as well as connotation of global digital governance, challenges for digital governance, main directions of cooperation in network governance and other important topics.

On behalf of SASS Institute of World Economy, Professor Zhou Yu, Associate Professor Huang Chao, Associate Professor Liu Chen, Dr. He Yao, Dr. Li Bing and other scholars delivered thematic speeches and shared viewpoints on China’s anti-sanction mode in global economic interaction, structural contradictions in global digital governance, and the role of the United Nations in global emerging fields and other issues. Hu Xiaopeng summarized opinions, and analyzed China’s presence in the emerging fields of global economic governance.

This seminar was held both online and offline and brought together more than 50 attendees, including all research team members of this major project, some researchers and graduate students of SASS Institute of World Economy.
