SASS Held the First Salon of Academic Salon Series for Chinese and Foreign Media Prior to the 20th CPC National Congress

On the afternoon of August 25, 2022, the First Salon of Academic Salon Series for Chinese and Foreign Media was held prior to the 20th CPC National Congress in Conference Room 101. Professor Quan Heng, Secretary of the CPC SASS Committee, Professor Shen Kaiyan, Director of SASS Institute of Economics, and Professor Liu Liang of SASS Institute of Applied Economics delivered speeches on major topics and hot issues of great concern domestically and internationally, including the progress of Lingang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, Shanghai’s post-pandemic economic recovery and integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. They also exchanged views with Chinese and foreign media journalists in depth. Zhang Yu, Director-level Consultant of Information Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government delivered an opening speech. Wu Xueming, Director of Publicity Department, CPC SASS Committee chaired the salon.


In the speech entitled “Lingang Special Area Takes the Lead in China’s High-level Reform and Opening-up”, Professor Quan Heng, Secretary of the CPC SASS Committee, expounded on new positioning, new achievements, new breakthroughs and new directions of Lingang Special Area. In the speech entitled “Focusing on Key Spheres of Shanghai’s Economic Recovery”, Professor Shen Kaiyan, Director of SASS Institute of Economics, interpreted and analyzed the challenges for Shanghai after the spring Pandemic, the pace and key spheres of economic recovery. In the speech entitled “Overall Thought of Stabilizing the National Macroeconomic Dashboard through Integrated Construction of the Yangtze River Delta”, Liu Liang, Professor of SASS Institute of Applied Economics, shared his analysis and explanation for the economic status of the Yangtze River Delta, the progress in integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and the ideas on future high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta, among others.

About 20 domestic and foreign media attended the salon, including Les Echos, The Economist, Lianhe Zaobao of Singapore, Phoenix Satellite Television of Hong Kong, China, South China Morning Post, Xinhua News Agency, China Daily, China News Service, Shanghai Mercury and Shanghai Daily. The journalists shared insights with guest speakers on the approach to building a special economic function zone in Lingang Special Area, the development of Metaverse industry and digital economy, the difficulties and solutions for Shanghai and the whole China to realize economic growth goals, the integrated high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta, and the complementary advantages of regional development in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao and the Yangtze River Delta.

Academic Salon Series for Chinese and Foreign Media is a platform for exchange built by Information Office of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and SASS. On a quarterly basis since 2015, it has served as a bridge for communication between Chinese and foreign media, experts and scholars.
