Seminar on “Theory and Practice of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” Held in Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences

On July 10th, 2022, “The Changes of the Era, the Questions of the World: Seminar on Theory and Practice of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” was jointly held by Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai Institute for International Studies, Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations and the Party School of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee through a combination of online and offline manners.

During the opening ceremony in the morning, Xu Jiong, Deputy Director of Publicity Department of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Head of Shanghai Municipal Press and Publication Administration (Shanghai Municipal Copyright Bureau), delivered a speech. On behalf of the four organizers, Quan Heng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a welcome speech. Miao Deyu, Director-General of the Department of Policy Planning of the Foreign Ministry attended the seminar and delivered a keynote speech via video. Zhou Aoying, Head of Shanghai Research Society of AI and Social Development and Deputy President of East China Normal University, Yang Jiemian, Head of Shanghai Society of International Relations, Xue Lan, Senior Professor of Liberal Arts of Tsinghua University and Head of Schwarzman Scholars, and Zeng Jun, Deputy President of the Party School of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee delivered speeches.

Chen Dongxiao, Head of Shanghai Institute for International Studies, and Wang Weisong, Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations, hosted the opening ceremony and the speech session respectively.

Xu Jiangang, Managing Deputy President of the Party School of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee attended the opening ceremony (main forum).

The afternoon seminars consisted of 4 online sub-forums, namely “New Development Pattern and High-level Opening Up”, “Security, Development and Governance of Emerging Technologies”, “China’s Diplomacy Facing the Turbulent and Changing World: Opportunities and Challenges” and “CPC’s Leadership and National Governance.”

The main forum and the first sub-forum “New Development Pattern and High-level Opening Up” were organized by SASS Think Tank Research Center (TTRC). 

Over 50 renowned experts and scholars from Shanghai, Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, etc. attended the seminars and delivered speeches. Over 250 scholars took part in online exchange and discussion. Nearly 20 media reported the seminar including the Xinhua News Agency/xinhuanet.com, People’s Daily/people.cn, Guangming Daily/gmw.cn, Social Sciences in China Press, Jiefang Daily/Shanghai Observer, Wenhui Daily, Social Sciences Weekly, China Daily, ICS, etc.
