Institute of World Economy is one of the most important research institutions devoted to the study of international economic policy in China. Established in 1978, it aims to provide timely and objective analysis on world economy problems for policymakers. The insitute is currently led by Director ZHANG Youwen and Deputy Director XU Mingqi.

The Institute’s agenda emphasizes both international relations and China’s reform and opening up policy. Current priority is attached to international finance, international investment, globalization, regional economics and international political economics. Influential analyses have addressed the development of international financial center in Shanghai and international business and economic affairs in China.

The Institute’s staff of about 43 includes 10 research professors and 12 associate professors. All of them are distinguished for their academic research and policy advice. The Institute also provides doctoral degree courses of world economy and economics, and master degree courses of world economy, economics, finance, and international politics.
