Institute of Literature of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, founded in 1979 is a bureau level research institution legal person as well as the major thought sphere and think-tank for the decision making of Shanghai’s culture and literature development. Since the new century, the institute has always adhered to the parallel development of culture and literature, disciplines and think-tank, fundamental theoretical study and of pragmatic research and we have accomplished fruitful results in the fields of urban culture, public culture, culture policies, culture planning, cultural industry and culture institutional reforms. We have undertook a number of state, ministerial, provincial and municipal-level research programs on culture. We’ve also participated in drafting important culture policies for Shanghai and China as a whole. Moreover, we also delivered lectures on culture to the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and the party committees of a couple of provinces, cities and regions. We’ve compiled the first-ever Blue Book on the Evolution of Urban Culture in the nation. We boast many a well-known scholars and a strong research team and a holistic research and finance management system. We have the authority to award MA degree in the discipline of Chinese Literature with four MA programs, including Literature and Art, China’s Contemporary Literature, China’s Ancient Literature, and the Culture industry. The head of the institute is Chen Shenglai, and the deputy director Kuai Dashen.
