The Institute of Law of SASS, formerly known as Shanghai Institute of Politics and Law of China Academy of Sciences, was found in 1959. The scholars and researchers of institute remain assisting policy-makers during the reform and open-up process of China in the globalized world.
 
Directed by Professor YE Qing, the institute is mainly engaging in studying the science of law and exploring the development of the socialist system of laws with Chinese characteristics. While remaining focused on thematic areas of Economic Criminology and Concession and Leased Territories, the Institute has also lays emphasis on providing consulting service to decision makers from government and advocating the spirit of law to the public.
 
As well as acting as a traditional think tank, the Institute has also paid a great deal of attention to developing the next generation of legal talent. There are 47 staffs in our institute, including 10 research professors and 17 associate research professors.
