Institute of International Studies was formed in September 2011 by the combination of two institutes: Institute of Eurasian Studies and Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies that were respectively established in 1981 and 1990. The current executive deputy director is LIU Ming.

The institute of International Studies aims to develop a theoretical system of international relations with Chinese characteristics and make great contribution to the foreign policy of government through its academic research and policy studies. The institute’s 48 full-time staff, of which 9 are research professors and 17 are associate research professors, conduct interdisciplinary research and analysis on global and peripheral issues such as China’s peaceful development strategies, regional cooperation mechanism, international security and international culture, instead of the focus on area studies in the period of the Institute of Eurasian Studies and Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies.

The Institute of International Studies provides master degree courses of international relations, world history and diplomacy.
